Crazy For Shelburne

Crazy quilts became popular during the late 1800's. A variety of irregular pieces of silk, satin, and velvet were used as well as prints, stripes and plaids. To make the crazy quilt, quilters sewed pieces of fabric onto a plain unmarked foundation. In this technique, blocks were patched with various irregular pieces. Fancy stitching and embellishments were commonly used between patches to make the finished quilt elaborate and detailed.

Crazy for Shelburne by Shelburne Museum is a fabric collection inspired by the illustrious craft of crazy quilting. The focal point of the collection is a whole cloth ‘crazy quilt’ based on a quilt called “Crazy Patchwork-Nursery Rhyme” made between 1870-1890. The maker, as well as its place of origin is unknown. Crazy for Shelburne is a colorful collection that will make a magical work of art that you will cherish for years to come!
